They’re not big budget spectacles or overhyped flicks. They’re raw and visceral, just the way they should be. The culture of the cult is active today, even in cinema as moviegoers watch such cult classics endlessly.
Here’s A Roundup Of Some Unheard Movies That You Should Watch
Snatch
Take your average Hollywood botched heist, mix up some colorful British actors and Brad Pitt. The result is a wacky, black comedy that reminds audiences of a Pulp Fiction styled British feature film. Directed by Guy Ritchie and filled with hilarious twists and avant-garde music, this gem of a movie shouldn’t be missed.
Primer
What Primer lacks in terms of budget and effects, it compensates by showcasing one of the most gripping yet confusing stories ever filmed. Made entirely by mathematician and engineer Shane Carruth, the movie features him along with David Sullivan who embarks on an endless voyage through time loops. The film also discusses the implications of cause and effect along with human philosophy.

Before jumping into science-fiction genres, Christopher Nolan dabbled in the art of neo-noir. Following is the result of that very art. It revolves around a common bystander who finds himself lost in the city’s underworld when he begins to follow strangers. It was made entirely out of Nolan’s salary, causing the production to use mostly natural lighting on a 16 mm film stock.
Thank You For Smoking
Have you ever wondered how the tobacco industry keeps afloat despite being depicted as a fatal money leecher with complete disregard of human life? Then just follow the life of the main character- Nick Naylor, a tobacco lobbyist who exploits the system to make sure people never stop smoking. Aaron Eckhart plays the lead role as a tobacco spokesperson who finds it difficult to pander to cigarette smokers while being a good role model for his son.
Garden State
Based on the real-life experiences of actor Zach Braff, the film is a rom-com about a struggling actor who returns to his hometown. But struggle seems to follow him, as he deals with the death of his mother and several unforeseen revelations from his past life. It was an official selection at the Sundance Film Festival and even won a Grammy Award for ‘Best Soundtrack.’
Phone Booth
Joel Schumacher proved he still had the director’s chops after delivering one of the most thrilling nail-biters of the modern century. And the entire events of the movie take place in a phone booth. The occupant is a shady publisher played by Colin Farrel who finds himself in a fix when a sniper forces him to follow his instructions and disclose all personal secrets to the world.
Matchstick Men
Another classic that was adopted from a novel. The movie is a black comedy that follows the exploits of a con man played by Nicolas Cage whose life turns upside down after a few dirty deals and deceptions. Visionary critic Roger Ebert awarded it four(out of four) stars and called it an unmissable masterpiece. Starring alongside are Sam Rockwell and Alison Lohman.
Trainspotting
Danny Boyle’s slick and sick take on Edinburgh drug addicts still holds the label for one of the funniest British movies ever made. Ewan Mcgregor, Robert Lee Emery, Robert Carlyle and Ewen Bremner take the audience on a trippy tour of the underbelly of Scotland, paved with drugs and hilarity. A sequel is in the works too that has people going crazy all over Europe.
Requiem For A Dream
A more dramatic take on the lives of drug junkies, Requiem for a Dream is a must watch for lost souls who’ve spiraled down the road of substance abuse. The film focuses on the depraved lives of four teenagers who face the dilemma of having to choose between reality and delusions. Situations start to worsen when they can no longer make the distinction and start destroying everything around them.
Seven Pounds
One of Will Smith’s lesser known films that received mixed reception during its release. It was a break from the standard action comedy movies that the public had seen for such a long time. The actor returned to work along with Gabriele Muccino with whom he crafted the biopic ‘The Pursuit of Happyness’. Seven Pounds remains a dramatic movie that becomes even more emotional when viewed multiple times.
Fight Club
The one movie you need to watch, especially if you’re an insomniac or just questioning your place in this world. Ripped apart from the pages of Chuck Palahniuk’s controversial novel of the same name, the film follows Edward Norton’s path of self-destruction along with Brad Pitt(Tyler Durden). And while the mayhem and machoism might be too much for most audiences, the film poses a lot of deep questions on existentialism and self-worth.
