This little town is situated on the river Wye. It is often abbreviated as Hay and is a small market town in Wales. This town is often described as the town of books all around the world. The annual Hay Festival is one of the major literary festivals of the town.

You might have read about the libraries which have thousands of books contained in them but have you ever heard about a town where you’ll find books everywhere? This little town is every book lover’s favorite place!!

This town has more than 30 major bookstores which are to be found on almost every corner. Many of the stores sell some of the antique and rare books which even the famous libraries in the world don’t possess. The town has a unique school which adds to the poetic charm to the atmosphere of the whole town.

The town’s relationship with books started in 1976 when Richard Booth came into this town and declared himself a King. He was an entrepreneur by profession and a book lover by heart. He was the one who opened the first bookstore in the town and gradually the town started to be known as the town of books.

In this town, you will find each bookstore containing books of a specific kind of genre. Thus, in the town full of books you would know where to rush to. Thus there is one store which sells books on detective genre and the other specializes in children’s books. There are stores which specifically have books related to history or on biology etc.

The major literary Hay Book Festival draws thousands of bookworms into the town which also includes of many famous authors, publishers, and even filmmakers.

How The Light Gets In is one of the other festivals which is held along with the Hay festival. It was held in 2010 and is a major philosophical and music fest held in the town. It is also considered to be the world largest festival and attracts over 35,000 visitors for its various events.

Another major attraction of the town is the Farmers market which opens every Thursday. One can buy home-made muffins from there.
