Recently the world is caught with the “gotta catch ’em all” fever wit the upcoming of mobile app Pokémon Go which was launched in the U.S.A. and made a record-breaking start up with its arrival.
Since its release, Pokemon Go has seen huge success and sends Nintendo’s stock skyrocketing earning of $1.6 million per day.
After Nintendo’s $9 billion 25% stock price jumped followed by the launch of the Pokemon Go mobile game in the U.S, Hollywood is planning to turn the game into a live action movie.
20 years ago the world was introduced to a video game ,where the players were supposed to traverse the game collect battle, breed, raise, trade.But as you can see this video game has evolved into an entertainment producing a long-standing trading card game, new smartphone app sensation ,television program, and after 20 years still Legendary Studios has won the battle and has the first crack to adapt a global sensation into a live-action major motion picture.
After box office success of the Angry Birds movie and Warcraft this summer, Pokemon Go is also felt that it can have a nice global box office collection. People are getting crazy for the game.
Don McGowan, General Counsel at The Pokémon Company International brought up the deal for the film by negotiating with outside counsel Dan Black of Greenberg Traurig. Legendary’s Chief Operating Officer ,Marty Willhite, and General Counsel along with Daniel Feinberg, Vice President Corporate Counsel and Mike Ross, Senior Vice President, Business and Legal Affairs, represented the studio.
“Legendary Entertainment is partnering with the Pokémon Company and is ready to launch the first live-action Pokemon film franchise casting a “Detective Pikachu” movie.After winning the rights to the Pokemon movie Legendary said details are being kept under wraps but they further added that the movie is scheduled to start in 2017.”

Pokémon was introduced in 1996 in Japan and 279 million video games were sold worldwide with 21.5 billion cards shipped to around 75 countries, and an animated series spanning 19 seasons. The hugely popular Pokemon Go app recently saw the pocket monsters surge back into the pop culture consciousnesses.
The film ‘s distribution will be handled by both Toho and Universal but it will go through Legendary.
The Pokemon franchise already has a few films to its credit , but this is its first it is being turned into live – action movie.The rights have been won by Legendary Entertainment for Pokemon movie and they are partnering with the Pokémon Company to launch the first live-action Pokemon movie casting a “Detective Pikachu”. Though detective Pikachu ‘s adventure is always loved in cartoons ,comics, and games,it’s an interesting choice to make a movie especially for kids and die-hard Pokemon fans. It is also said that aside from investigating crimes, Pikachu drinks coffee and flirts with women.
The Plot details are under wrap, but the movie will be based on the character Detective Pikachu from Nintendo’s Pokemon spin-off game with the same name which was released in Nintendo 3DS in Japan. Though the movie would not be a straight Pokemon flick, only some of the most popular Pokemon will be picked and cast together into the film plot. The production of the film is scheduled to begin in 2017.
