Is Sultan’s Success Only Salman’s contribution?

It is of course not new to us,that the success of a movie especially in Bollywood is understood to be just because of an actor.Recently Sultan is earning the lot in Box Office and each voice is praising Salman Khan. Voices like-

“Bhai ki film was amazing”, “Bhai ki acting superhit hai” !!

We don’t appreciate the contribution of a female actor. It is partly, because of the headlines made in newspaper’s and the way media highlights. We need to change our perception!!

Few days before, wage disparity in Bollywood and Hollywood was much in news. At that time all feminist instinct in each one of us becomes highly active. But we need to realize that its time to change the socialization process we inherit. The way we appreciate movies need to change and motivation to watch movies have to change ( motivations like let’s watch Salman’s movie).

“Salman khan’s age is 50 years and Anushka Sharma’s age is 28 years, nobody appreciates the efforts she had to make at this early stage in Bollywood. Salman has a long experience in this industry, for him, things are easy but for Anushka, it must have been so hard to act with Salman.”

In an interview about gender inequality in the film industry,Kajol said, “It is male dominated. There is no getting away from that fact. Whether it is Hollywood or Bollywood, that will be there because currently, our world is like that.Hollywood or Bollywood, it is simply another business where it is male dominated. But again it has to be monetarily feasible and economically viable. That’s something that has everything to do with the pay scale as far as this particular business is concerned.”

From the awards to the way we perceive movies, it shows the extent to which we are patriarchal.

Actor Urmila Matondkar who shifted base to Panchgani said,

“Getting good scripts every day isn’t possible. Honestly, I have reached that point in my life where I don’t want to get out of my house unless it’s worth it.”

Shilpa Shetty Kundra who is busy handling her IPL team at the moment says,

“There came a time when the scripts offered to me were not only foolish but completely impractical. There was no other choice but to move on.”

Actor Shefali Shah had to act as Akshay Kumar’s mother in a film. Winning a National Award last year in the supporting actor category for The Last Lear, she says, “Everyone knows it’s a male dominated industry. So you can only wait.”

Filmmaker Kunal Kohli said,”As long as the male superstars use their star power to make the right films, we are a long away from making films which will have women equally standing the chance.”

After all this, On 30th April 2016, Actress Radhika Apte felt that the perception of the country’s mainstream cinema — Bollywood, which was been often criticized for being a male-dominated industry, is changing over time.

The above statement can be an attempt to hide reality or rather not accepting the reality. This statement is very similar to Aung San Suu Kyi saying-
