Today is a big day for every Indian. In a sudden address to the nation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi yesterday announced that Rs 500 and Rs 1000 banknotes would be legally invalid and from today onwards, a new series of Rs.500 and Rs.2000 note will be added to the mainstream economy. This is indeed a huge step against the rampant corruption.
Here is what you need to know about the new series of Rs.500 and Rs.2000 Note.
500 Rupees Note
The Size and Color
The size of the new Rs.500 note is 63 mm x 150 mm and the color is stone gray. The old 500 note was 73mm x 167 mm.
Indian Heritage Site Theme – Red Fort
There is the image of Red fort on the back of the note. It also highlights the “Swachchh Bharat Abhiyaan” Logo in the bottom left.

1. See-through the register in denominational numeral.

2000 Rupees Note
The Size and Color
The size of the new Rs.2000 note is 66 mm x 166 mm and the color is Magenta.
Theme: Motif of Mangalayan
There is the image of Mangalyaan on the back of the note to display the India’s first venture in interplanetary space proudly. It also highlights the “Swachchh Bharat Abhiyaan” Logo in the bottom left.

More Facts:
New RBI Governor Signature
Both the new 500 and 2000 Rupees notes carry the signature of Urjit R Patel, who took over from Raghuram Rajan as the RBI governor earlier this year.
No “Nano GPS chip” on New Notes

According to various rumors, the new notes was supposed to be equipped with a “micro nano GPS chip,” which could help tracking individual notes by way of satellite. But now, when RBI has already released the official brochures ( Link 1 and Link 2) informing about the various features of the New notes, and there is no mention of any such tracking chip. So, it’s not true.
