Game Of Thrones Breaks 2016 Emmy Record With The Most Number Of Wins

Game of Thrones is an American fantasy drama television series which has been created by David Benioff and D. B. Weiss. Its first season premiered on HBO on April 17, 2011, and its sixth season concluded on June 26, 2016. Game of Thrones boasts of record numbers of viewers on HBO and a colossal active international fan base.

Game of Thrones has set a new ‘Emmy Award’ record after winning 38 Emmys in total. Previously, the record was held by Frasier with a total of 37 Emmy awards. An Emmy Award recognizes excellence in the television industry. The awards are presented in different annual ceremonies held throughout the year. On September 18, 2016, Game of Thrones superseded Fraiser to set up a new record by winning the most number of Emmys.

The series has won the ‘Best Drama Series’ award for two years in a row. The show-runners of the series D.B. Weiss, David Benioff, and its director Miguel Sapochnik were rewarded for their work on season 6 episode ‘Battle of the Bastards’.

David Benioff and D.B. Weiss won the award for ‘Writing for a drama series’. Whereas, Miguel Sapochnik won the award for ‘Directing for a drama series’.

Coupled with the nine wins at last week’s Creative Arts Emmys, Game of Thrones emerges as the drama series with the record number of wins in Emmys history.
