Sarah Kay is an American poet, known for her spoken word poetry. She is also the founder and co-director of the foundation V.O.I.C.E., a group dedicated to spoken word as a means of education and inspiration.
In this particular poem called ‘The Type,’ she attempts to describe a woman under the feminist shade. This poem subtly tries to push the self esteem of women.
You are not made of metaphors, apologies or excuses.
If you grew up the type of women men want to look at, hold, love and then maybe leave, this poem addresses you, this poem is for you.
It urges you to forgive yourself for deeds that you consider to be a mistake, for you were only searching for a place to call home.
